26 Jun My Retreat Story
The Creation of My Visibility Retreat
Ever since my early days in music PR I’ve believed that it’s possible to have a profile without being a princess, to craft a reputation that doesn’t involve trampling over others to stand out. I’ve never particularly wanted to be the centre of attention myself, but I have worked hard to create a profile that works for me, publishing a number of books on PR and marketing, running this blog and my Scarlet Thinking website, speaking at appropriate events and keeping my social media accounts bubbling.
My Own Profile
I’ve been published in The Huffington Post and Psychologies magazine, amongst others, and worked hard to ensure that there is a continuous stream of profile raising opportunities that come along without me having to try too hard. I am not in people’s faces but I have a presence that enables the right people to find me. What’s important for me is that I am doing this in a way that is sustainable.
Sustainability is something I have become more and more interested in the longer I spend doing this. I can give clients the perfect formula for getting out there and getting noticed but for it to be successful it has to be built around them, their strengths, their time and and their likes and dislikes.
Along with sustainability goes confidence. If you haven’t got the self-belief that you can do it, something will hold you back. You will find yourself procrastinating or just do your marketing in a half-hearted manner and wonder why it’s not working.
This Visibility Retreat Experience
So…I wanted to create an experience that addressed this. Not a workshop where people went home at the end of the day, but something more transformative.
Something more bespoke where we could go deep to find out what has been holding them back – even using the excuse of being too busy is a way to hold yourself back.
I wanted to create an experience where we could really work on the vision of what that future reputation looks like, and dissect it into the precise steps needed to get there.
And I wanted to do it somewhere beautiful and soul-lifting. Of course, it had to be Italy. Italy has long called to me. Every time I visit it feels like going home. I love the food, the wine, the history, the art…the siestas! I could go on.
Looking back at my past visits, I realised that Verona had to be the place. Whilst I am a big fan of Rome, I do sometimes find it busy and brash, hardly a respite from London, where I live. Instead, Verona has much of what Rome has to offer – the history for instance, that melting pot of ancient, medieval and modern – but in a much smaller, less crowded area.
And so, The Verona Visibility Retreat was created. A retreat to restore and refresh your enthusiasm; where you can take some time to really look at everything you are putting out there and ask yourself..
- How do others see me?
- How can I get past these habits or blocks that are stopping me moving forward?
- Where should I be putting my time and energy?
- How can I get others to help me and still be authentic?
- What can I drop that drains me or takes up too much of my time?
- What can I do that I love and enjoy?
- How can I raise my profile without looking desperate or killing myself in the process?
- What next?

You will receive a 30 minute coaching with me in the month before the retreat. This may include a little homework to get you in the mood! There will also be a Facebook group to get to know your fellow Profile Raisers, and stay in touch long after.
The retreat begins at 4pm on October 5th so plan to arrive mid afternoon. We end after breakfast on the morning of Sunday 8th October.
We will enjoy 3 delicious breakfasts with gluten, dairy free and even Vegan breakfast options (please let me know beforehand though). A welcoming Italian cold buffet and the finest local organic Prosecco will kick off our weekend on the Thursday evening and I’ll be taking us to a typical regional Italian restaurant for pizza or pasta for our Saturday night gala meal.
I’ll be giving us a little tour of Verona by moonlight on the Thursday evening (weather permitting) and there are plenty of local walking or food tours you can book during your free afternoons. I will send you links to some of these. You will have two restorative free afternoons and one free evening to do your own thing or buddy up with a new friend and explore. Or just chill in your lovely hotel room or the courtyard.
Our Home for the Weekend
We will be enjoying the charming Italian hospitality of an old Palazzo, about a seven minute walk from the heart of the city: la Piazza Bra. I came here two years ago and fell in love with the place. Its six bedrooms are airy and pretty: two even have their own lounge area. There is a lovely courtyard to sit and read in with a glass of wine or coffee in between sessions and exploring.
